Fall in love with these awesome new wheel designs made using this unique process.
Here’s the informative bit… what goes into this very special procedure…
Lighter…one piece casting forming a rim shell to reduce rim thickness through a technique known as Elongation, this reduction can save upto 8lbs depending on the size of the wheel! The Elongation process produces not only a lighter result but a stronger tissue formation.
Stronger ….This specialized process begins with a low pressure type of casting and uses a special machine that spins the initial casting, heats the outer portion of the casting and then uses steel rollers pressed against the rim area to pull the rim to its final width and shape. The combination of the heat, pressure and spinning create a rim area with the strength similar to a forged wheel without the high cost of the forging. Some of the special wheels produced for the O.E.M. high performance or limited production vehicles utilize this type of technology resulting in a light and strong wheel at a reasonable cost.
What does Van Rated Mean?
Many people will talk about wheels being van rated when actually they are not. Often wheels are marketed as being suitable for a T5 just because the PCD (the spacing between the bolts) is the same – 5×120. This means that whilst Land Rover, BMW and other VW wheels may fit, they may well not be strong enough for the job. The weight needs to exceed the maximum axle weight for each corner. Therefore a VW T28 (2800Kg) would need to have each wheel rated in excess of 700Kg and a T30 (3000Kg) would need to have each wheel rated in excess of 750Kg and a T32 (3200Kg) would need to have each wheel rated in excess of 800Kg. Therefore the 860Kg rating of these wheels well exceeds the rating required for the heaviest of the T5 models.
